Johannes studied electrical and computer engineering at the Technical University of Munich. He then chose his occupation as IT security researcher for embedded systems with a focus on offensive security and the next generation of physical protection mechanisms. In 2019, he was awarded a PhD by the TUM in cooperation with the Fraunhofer Institute AISEC for his dissertation on "Breaking and Restoring Embedded System Security". He presented his research on various scientific conferences such as the USENIX WOOT and gave talks at the CCCamp. Apart from his current occupation as a postdoctoral researcher at the institute, he is active as an independent researcher. One of his current research topics is the security of electronic vote counting in German elections.
