Ricarda Winkelmann

Ricarda Winkelmann is Professor of Climate System Analysis at the University of Potsdam and the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK), where she leads the Ice Dynamics Working Group and co-leads the FutureLab on Earth Resilience in the Anthropocene. She is a member of the Earth Commission (https://earthcommission.org/), whose mission it is to assess the latest science to underpin the development of science-based targets for climate, land, water and biodiversity. Her research focuses on tipping elements in the Earth System, Greenland and Antarctic ice dynamics and future sea-level rise. Winkelmann is co-developer of the open-source Parallel Ice Sheet Model (PISM, https://pism-docs.org) and participated in two research expeditions to Antarctica. In 2018, Academics and Die ZEIT named her Young Scientist of the Year.
