Jennifer Helsby

Dr. Jennifer Helsby (@redshiftzero) is a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Chicago's Center for Data Science and Public Policy, a joint center between the University of Chicago's Computation Institute and Harris School of Public Policy. She is interested in fairness and transparency in algorithms, data privacy and security, and currently works primarily with police data. She is also a former Data Science for Social Good fellow, where she worked on building predictive systems for cities. Prior to that, Jennifer completed her Ph.D. in astrophysics at the Kavli Institute for Cosmological Physics at the University of Chicago, where she did computational work studying the large scale distribution of galaxies in the universe.
