Abstract
-

A brief lecture on continued global erosion of civil rights, dismantling of international law, and escalation of human rights abuses under the Covid-19 pandemic, with particular case examples from the People’s Republic of China,
Hong Kong under the New National Security Law and the EU. There will also be an update on the circumstances of the Snowden Refugees, namely Vanessa Rodel and her daughter resettling into life in Montreal, Canada
and a dramatic turn in Ajith’s (former Sri Lankan soldier) circumstances in Hong Kong as he is caught before a judiciary lacking independence as well as pending passage of new draconian Hong Kong immigration
legislation putting him at risk while he awaits Canada’s decision on his refugee claims.
